TEXAS BOUND/SHUTTING IT DOWN: Vancouver Whitecaps FC are set for their first of three trips to Texas this season as they face fellow Western Conference adversaries Houston Dynamo FC this Saturday, March 12 at PNC Stadium in Houston, Texas. The 'Caps and Houston share the same 0W-1L-1D record as they both look to earn their first win in Week 3 of the 2022 season. The match will also feature a return to a familiar ground for 'Caps assistant coach Ricardo Clark, who spent a total of 11 seasons with the Dynamo across three separate spells during his playing and early coaching career.
Kieran Tierney: Left Back, Leader… And Arsenal's Next Captain?
CLUTCH DEFENCE: The Blue and White saw plenty of stand-out defensive performances in their 0-0 draw with New York City FC last weekend. Among those was goalkeeper Thomas Hasal, who was named to the MLS Team of the Week for Week 2 after making four saves and capturing his first clean sheet of the season. Defenders Tristan Blackmon, Ranko VeselinoviÄ and Florian Jungwirth also came up clutch with big interventions throughout the match to preserve the clean sheet.
BRIAN'S BACK: After missing time due to a right foot contusion, forward Brian White made his first appearance of the season off the bench against New York City and is now fully fit ahead of the 'Caps trip to Houston. White was the club's leading goalscorer in 2021 with 12 goals and finished the season with a combined total of 18 goals plus assists, the third most by a North American player in MLS.Vancouver Whitecaps players celebrate after defeating Toronto FC on penalty kicks during the 2022 Canadian Championship soccer final, in Vancouver, British Columbia on Tuesday, July 26, 2022. Two teams in Major League Soccer’s Western Conference continue to fight to stay in the hunt for the postseason, as the Vancouver Whitecaps are set to host the Houston Dynamo in the lone match on Friday night.
Defender Of The Year Cements Marshall's Impact In First Year With Sounders
The Whitecaps and Dynamo are right next to each other in the standings coming into Friday night, with Vancouver holding a slight edge. After drawing with Nashville SC last Saturday, the Whitecaps are tied for 10th in the West with 27 points, five back of the Seattle Sounders and Portland Timbers who are tied for the last postseason position. They are winless in their last five regular season contests, though three of those contests have ended in a draw. The team’s last win came, shockingly, over the league-leading Los Angeles FC back on July 2. Since then, the Whitecaps have struggled against teams they should be pulling together wins against, including the likes of the Chicago Fire and Cincinnati FC. They will look to try and finally pick up three points at BC Place, where they are 5-3-3 this season.
Sitting just two points back of Vancouver and seven back of a playoff spot, sit the Dynamo. Despite having a win in the last month, Houston has struggled in recent weeks. They have just one win in their last seven matches (a 2-1 decision over the San Jose Earthquake almost three weeks ago), and are coming off an embarrassing 6-0 loss against the Eastern Conference-leading Philadelphia Union. They are now tasked with trying to jump past the Whitecaps in the standings with a road win, something they have only done three times in their first 11 matches away Houston this season.

How To Watch The Vancouver Whitecaps Vs. Houston Dynamo
“To compete against the top teams in our conference, no, I don’t think so. We need to be honest and clear, we have a competitive group. A group that can make the playoffs, yes, but to be at the top of the league, we still need to take a few transfer windows to get better. I’m sure Asher (Mendelsohn) and Pat (Onstad) are working on it, but this is a process. The players, coaches, staff, and ownership have to be realistic and transparent. It’s going to take a few transfer windows for us to be where we want to be.”
“We came here with a plan, with how we were going to play. I thought we did that very well first half. We created a lot of opportunities. For most of the second half, I felt the same way and that’s what makes it very disappointing that we didn’t play a complete 90 minutes. In the very end, we let it slip, but the way that we played for the majority of the game is how we need to keep going and the way we need to play.”
